FAQs

What is Bartlett Hanover Park Sports Association (BHPSA)?
Bartlett Hanover Park Sports Association (BHPSA) is the local chapter of the International Little League program (LittleLeague.org). Little League Baseball, Incorporated, is a non-profit organization whose mission is to "promote, develop, supervise, and voluntarily assist in all lawful ways, the interest of those who will participate in Little League Baseball and Softball." Through proper guidance and exemplary leadership, the Little League program assists children in developing the qualities of citizenship, discipline, teamwork and physical well-being. By espousing the virtues of character, courage and loyalty, the Little League Baseball program is designed to develop superior citizens rather than superior athletes. Although we cooperate with the Parks & Recreation departments of both Bartlett and Hanover Park, we are NOT a park district program.  You cannot register through either's registration platform.

Can my child play with BHPSA?
To play in our league you must be a resident or attend school within the BHPSA boundaries--living or attending school in Bartlett, Hanover Park, Wayne, and certain parts of West Chicago, Carol Stream, Roselle, and Schaumburg (boundary map). If you are still uncertain if your player is eligible to play with BHPSA, use the Little League League Finder tool to identify the appropriate league for you. If you live in an adjacent area that has no Little League, contact BHPSA via email--you may be eligible to play with us.

If you moved out of our area but have played with us previously you can continue to play with BHPSA, but you must obtain a waiver before June 1st, especially if you are All-Star eligible. Contact us via email for more information

Which division should my child play in?
BHPSA is guided by Little League International rules regarding establishing divisions. Divisions are determined by a combination of league age, experience, and evaluations.

A child's baseball league age for the 2025 baseball season is determined by their age on August 31st, 2025.

This age stays the same until the 2025 season, regardless if they have a birthday during the season.

For Fall baseball 2025, players should play at the level of their 2026 league age.

Need additional assistance with determining your player's league age? Use the Little League League Age Calculator.

If you wish your child to play in a division that does not match his/her suggested age range, please contact BHPSA via email ([email protected]), and they will direct the inquiry to the division commissioner(s) and the Player Agent.

Where are practices and games held?
BHPSA has a number of fields that we can utilize--the bulk can be found at Glen A. Koehler Fields (2255 Southwind Blvd., Bartlett, IL 60103), Ruzicka Memorial Park (920 Newport Blvd., Bartlett, IL 60103) and Hanover Park Sports Complex (1200 Sycamore Ave., Hanover Park, IL 60133). There are additional fields and facilities that managers from our teams utilize.

When are practices and games held?
Schedules will not be available until beginning of April at earliest. Practices are usually held 1-3 times per week, beginning in early to mid April (weather and field conditions permitted), on the fields at Koehler Fields, Ruzicka Memorial Park, or the Hanover Park Sports Complex. Times and days are determined by manager and division commissioner based on the availability and condition of fields. Generally they are in the evening during the week and on Saturdays. Regular season games begin mid/late April and end mid/end June-early July, depending on the division. Tournament play (option) may continue through the summer. Regular season games (1-3 games per week) are normally at 5:45 PM -7:45PM or 7:45 PM - 9:45 PM (start times consider age of athlete) during the week, and between 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM on Saturdays. Make-up games may be scheduled on Sundays, however, we try to avoid this. Tee Ball and Coach Pitch players have between 10-12 games, higher divisions have between 14-22 games.

How do I register?
Registration for our upcoming Spring season opens in mid-late fall. Registration closes in early/mid march for our Major-Junior teams and our first cut-off is April 1st for Tee Ball, Coach Pitch and AA Player/Coach Pitch.

Register online here.

*Registrations received after April 1st are subject to the A) a $20 late fee, B) being placed on waitlist, and C) non-customized player uniform (no name on back of jersey, no custom number).*

Simply put, late registrations cause immense difficulty for our board members and potential disappointment for players and their families. We make final roster decisions about numbers of teams in early/mid March at and/or around the time regular registration ends. Team drafts are held in mid-March for major-junior teams, early April (Tee Ball, Coach Pitch, AA Player/Coach Pitch). Late registrations will only be accepted if there is a spot open on an already formed team. For late registrants there is no guarantee that you will be returned to your former team. Talking to, emailing, calling, texting a coach, commissioner, player agent stating intent to play does not equal completed registration. You must complete registration and make payment.

Register online here.

What are fees?
Fees vary by division due to differences in the number of games played and the cost of uniforms, umpires, and equipment. See the Registration tab for more details.

What do these fees cover?
BHPSA cooperates with the Parks & Recreation departments of Bartlett and Hanover Park, but we are NOT a park district program. As such, fees with BHPSA cover (but are not limited to):
•     The cost of the provided uniform (jersey, hat, pants)
•     Provided equipment (bats, catcher’s equipment, balls, batting helmets - specific equipment  varies by division)
•     Umpire fees
•     Field maintenance costs and equipment
•     Utilities
•     Little League charter and insurance fees

Refund policy
The BHPSA policy for Player Fee Refunds is as follows:
•    If the player withdraws after the draft, but before a uniform is ordered, a 100% Refund will be allowed.
•    If the player withdraws after the uniform is ordered, but before opening day, the refund will be 100% minus the cost of the uniform ($30-$50).
•    If a player quits after opening day for their division, NO refund will be allowed.
•    If a player is unable to play due to a medical reason and there is a written document from a doctor supporting a medical issue that prevents the player from participating, then the player will receive a prorated refund.

What happens after registration?
Some players will need to attend an evaluation (see below). After registration and evaluations are complete a draft is held to determine placement of players on teams. After the teams are drafted, the manager will be in contact with you through phone or email to let you know which team your child is on and the practice schedule.

Evaluations
Every player registered prior to the cut-off dates will be placed on a team. The evaluation is a skill evaluation for proper division and team placement. Evaluations  are usually held on a Saturday in March at one of our partner facilities. At evaluations players will be asked to run, field, throw, and hit. Please bring your glove and wear gym shoes.   The evaluation takes only a few minutes. Tee Ball and Coach Pitch players will not participate in an evaluation. All other divisions may be subjected to an evaluation day and all families will be notified in advance of this date.

What do I need to purchase?
Basic equipment such as balls and a limited number of batting helmets are provided to each team, along with additional division appropriate equipment. You must provide your own glove (catcher’s glove provided with division appropriate equipment).  Gym shoes are fine for Tee Ball and Single-A Baseball players, but AA-Player/Coach Pitch and above players are strongly encouraged to have baseball shoes. Metal cleats are allowed only in the Junior and Senior divisions.

Many players prefer to use their own bats and batting helmets (again, helmets are in limited supply). Baseball bats MUST meet Little League specifications. Before investing in a bat, consult the Bat Rules.

Volunteering
The local little league is an all-volunteer operation. We can keep our registration costs low only because of parent volunteers.  Parents are strongly encouraged to become involved in Little League. After completing a Little League volunteer application and passing a required national background check, parents may become involved in practices, and be eligible as coaches, managers, umpires, local league board members and other volunteer positions within the league. We have a continuing critical need for help with team managers, field maintenance, fund-raising, sponsorship, and board members. Please consider donating a few hours of your time to Little League. We cannot make this work without your help.

All-Stars
The All-Star Tournaments start after the regular season concludes. Organization for these teams is unique to each division and is subject to multiple considerations, including but not limited to merit, effort, sportsmanship, and availability. Please reach out for additional details.

Fall Ball
Fall Ball focuses on fun and instruction, providing a chance to hone and develop skills.  Standings are not kept.  Players should play in the division they will be in the following spring, which gives a chance to learn the new rules and adjust to the larger field of the new division.   Look for online registration close to the end of the regular season.  We offer Fall Ball for all baseball and softball divisions levels based on demand.
